Problems Playing CDs Recorded by the CD Rewriter

Problems Playing CDs Recorded by the CD Rewriter

  1. When attempting to play audio CDs I have burnt on a home or car stereo system, the last few tracks on the CD skip or have gaps in the song. This occurs for all CD burnt so far - how can I fix this?
  2. Check the following:

    • Make sure that the DMA is enabled for your CD-RW drive. To check your DMA settings please do the following:

    For Windows 98 and ME

    1. Right mouse click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties from the pop-up menu that appears.
    2. Click on the Device Manager tab at the top of the System Properties window.
    3. In Device Manager, double click on the CD-ROM category. A list of your optical drives will be shown. Double click on the icon for your CD-RW drive.
    4. In the Properties window for your CD-RW drive click on the Settings tab. In the Settings window, make sure there is a check in the box next to the DMA option. If not, check the box, then restart your computer and try an Audio CD burn again.

    For Windows 2000 and XP

    1. Right mouse click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties from the pop-up menu that appears.
    2. Click on the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window, then click on the Device Manager button.
    3. In Device Manager, double click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers category. A list of your IDE controllers will be shown.
    4. Double click on the Primary IDE Channel icon. In the Properties window for the IDE Channel, click on the Advanced Settings tab. In the Settings window, make sure that the Transfer mode for Device 0 and Device 1 is set to DMA if available. Once the Primary IDE Channel has been checked, do the same for the Secondary IDE channel. Once this has been set, restart your computer and try an Audio CD burn again.
    • There may be a hardware limitation with your computer that is causing the problems with the Audio CD burn. Try lowering the burn speed for your Audio CDs to see if this resolves the issue.
